The University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine (SDM) is seeking a Billing-Prior Authorization Specialist . This position will report to the Billing Supervisor. The primary purpose of this position is to perform billing and pre-authorization functions with support for Admissions Dept. Additional requirements include performing billing tasks in collaboration with the Billing Supervisor as required. This individual works closely with students, residents, staff and faculty to maintain the efficient effective workflow and operation of the dental clinics.

Duties and responsibilities will include:

Manage follow up on insurance claims and enter claim information through insurance carrier websites.
Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, coverage, and financial approvals.
Obtain prior authorizations for imaging and dental procedures and resolve related issues with codes or approvals.
Apply knowledge of dental criteria and NYS Medicaid and Medicare rules to ensure procedures meet coverage requirements before billing.
Document accurate insurance information and patient specific coverage notes in the EHR.
Participate in meetings and support testing, updates, and optimization of the EHR system.
Create instructional materials and training resources for EHR use.
Handle patient communication, including mailing correspondence and responding to phone inquiries.
Provide back-up support for staff and assist Admissions department as needed.
Deliver high quality customer service to ensure a positive patient experience.
Complete additional responsibilities assigned by management or senior leadership to support Clinical Affairs operations. These responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, functions related to Billing, Welcome Center, Medical Records, Admissions, and Prior Authorization.


Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
