Position Summary
Join our team as a Lead Nurse Practitioner within the Division of Digestive & Liver Disease (DLD) and play a key leadership role in overseeing clinical nursing operations to ensure exceptional patient care delivery. The Lead Nurse Practitioner will manage a dynamic clinical team of Advanced Practice Providers (Nurse Practitioners) and nursing staff (RNs) across multiple ambulatory sites.
This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring programs, policies, and workflows that support high-quality patient care, operational efficiency, and staff productivity. The DLD practice serves a diverse patient population with gastrointestinal and hepatology conditions.
The position includes an estimated 80% clinical and 20% administrative effort and works in close partnership with clinical leadership, faculty physicians, and administrative teams under the direction of the Division Chief and Division leadership.
Practice locations include the main CUIMC campus and ambulatory sites throughout Manhattan and Westchester.
Responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities
Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including medical history, physical exams, and risk evaluation.
Order and interpret diagnostic tests and collaborate with physicians and specialists as needed.
Diagnose and manage gastrointestinal and hepatology conditions.
Develop and implement treatment plans, including prescribing medications in accordance with NYS regulations.
Educate patients and families on treatment plans, medications, and preventive care.
Support care coordination, including referrals and access to community resources.
Assist with prescriptions, prior authorizations, disability paperwork, and patient communication.
Document, code, and bill in compliance with institutional and regulatory standards.
Provide cross-coverage for APPs and physicians as needed.
Administrative Responsibilities
Evaluate the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and clinical services within DLD.
Assign responsibilities based on licensure, scope of practice, and staff experience.
Analyze operational and clinical data to identify opportunities to improve patient outcomes, access, and satisfaction.
Evaluate staff performance and support professional development and growth.
Conduct performance evaluations and implement corrective actions as needed.
Provide leadership, mentorship, and direction to APPs and nursing staff.
Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams, including physicians, nurses, and administrative leadership.
Ensure compliance with required trainings, certifications, and clinical competencies.
Promote a culture of professionalism aligned with Columbia Doctors and departmental standards.
Develop and manage staff schedules and ensure adherence to attendance and operational policies.
Minimum Qualifications
Master?s degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus one to two years of experience
Board certification (ANCC or AANP)
Current New York State RN and NP licenses
Current or eligibility for NYS DEA registration
Preferred Qualifications
Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)
Nursing leadership, management, or related experience
Experience in gastroenterology, hepatology, or ambulatory specialty care
Other Requirements
Must satisfy all clinical credentialing and privileging requirements of NewYork?Presbyterian Hospital
Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements
